Visit Nagorpur Jamindar Bari

Nagorpur Jamindar Bari is situated at the Nagorpur Upazila of Tangail district. This palace is located in an interesting area. It has river Dhaleswari at its eastern side, and river Jamuna at the western side. It is believed that once there existed a naval route between Kolkata and Nagorpur during the British era. Now the Jamindari system has vanished, but the infrastructure remains as a proof. T
e Jamindari of Nagorpur was established during the 19th century by Jodunath Chowdhury. Today his once massive palace is known as Choudhury Bari. While maximum Jamindars were highly known for their aggressive activities towards their people, the Jamindar of Nagorpur was known for his benevolence towards his subjects. One of the descendants of the Choudhury family named Suresh Chandra Ray Choudhury was the founder secretary of the famous East Bengal club. Now, most of the buildings of the complex are in a dilapidated state. Neither the government nor any private organization has come forward to preserve these buildings. The government has established Nagorpur Mohila Degree College on parts of the palace. How to travel There are several ways to go to Nagorpur from Dhaka. You can take the direct bus from Mohakhali that goes to Nagorpur. Another option can be Dhaka- Pakutia, through Saturia. You can journey to Saturia on a bus from Gabtoli bus terminal.
